Zhou Ming, male, was born in Xi’an, Shaanxi in 1960. On graduating from Shanghai Teachers University Chinese Language Department in 1983, he became a teacher in the same university. In 1986, he worked as a teacher in Shanghai Tongji University, and has been teaching in Shanghai Institute of Technology since 2002. His main solo or group exhibitions include April and Folkways (Shanghai, 2000); Shanghai Sketch, 2001 (Seoul, 2002); Shanghai on the Spot (Pingyao, 2002); Undisguised (Shanghai, 2003); China Contemporary Photojournalism Ten-Person Show (Geneva, 1999); Living in a Metropolis (Korea, 2002); City and People (Shanghai, 2002).

These photos were shot between 2002 and 2003 in Shanghai. The photographer went the extra mile to avoid the beautifying and propaganda often seen in mainstream media, in order to portray the imbalance and indecency caused by a city in rapid transition. At the same time, this is a conscious betrayal of what the author practiced before.
