Born in Beijing in1953, Wang Wenlan, the Han, works as a senior journalist. Wang Wenlan ever studied in the school, and was a worker and a soldier after being sent to live and work in the countryside as a member of a production team for a few years. He was transferred to civilian work to serve as a director of Photography Department of China Daily in 1980. He was elected an executive member, vice chairman and permanent executive member of Chinese Photographers Society, an academic committee member of Chinese Society of News Photography, a member of editorial board of China News Photography Yearbook, Popular Photography, Art Photography of China and World Affairs Pictorial, and an advisor of Chinese National Geography. Meanwhile he gained the government allowance for the technicians granted by the State Council.
Wang Wenlan covered the April 5th Movement, the earthquake in Tangshan, Laoshan Battlefront, combating a flood and providing disaster relief, and the Party congress, the National People’s Congress, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the leaders of foreign states visiting to China, the Asian Games and the Olympic Games.
As a winner of golden, silver and copper medals at the National Excellent News Photography Competition, Wang Wenlan was still awarded the titles of “one of Ten Top of National Portraiture Photography and the Outstanding Photographer for Combating the Flood and Providing Disaster Relief.” He severed as a juror of jury for national photo shows, international photographic exhibitions, reportage photography shows and China Golden Statue Award, and a Chinese photographer for the albums titled the Long March and One Day of China. The anthologies of photographs published by him include Jingwei, About Eminent Persons, Floating Great Wall, the Twinkling of an Eye and China Records. “Strolling around the Square” and “Chinese and Foreign News Portraitures” Photo Exhibition held by him was showed in the China National Museum of Fine Arts. He gave lessons in news photography in the Institute of Journalism of the Chinese Academy of Social Science, Chinese Institute of Journalism, Xinhuan News Agency, and People’s Daily.
